Draft resolution on the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

This resolution was adopted on November 17, 2005 by consensus at the General Assembly's Third Committee - even after the deletion of a draft paragraph on "the root causes of forced displacement," and the likes of Azerbaijan and Venezuela expressed much unhappiness. Another lesson in the benefits of hanging tough against the many UN states who prefer to divert attention away from problems - and responsibilities.
