On March 14, 2016 the UN's Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) held an event on "Women's role in the search for Israeli-Palestinian Peace," which justified "resistance" and delegitimized Israel's right to exist. In the words of invited panelist Hiba Husseini:
"Palestinian women have played some role in the resistance to the occupation even looking back to the period of 1948 following the so-called Nakba in Arabic."
"Following the 1967 war...the situation that befell the Palestinians as a consequence to these successive wars led women to participate and it became socially acceptable at the time for women to join the resistance to the occupation."
"1325 is colored by the resistance to occupation (more than 60 years) and the increased violence against women and girls, so 1325 has made little difference to women's every day life under occupation."
Information about the UN Palestinian Rights Committee and CEIRPP's mandate and activities were distributed to a packed room.
