The UN-NGO Connection:
A Global Platform to Spread Hate and Promote Terror

2012

UN-accredited NGOs disseminate the hatred of Jews and the Jewish state. It is a message which is diametrically opposed to the purposes and principles of the United Nations. Here are their words.

Inciting Hate or Encouraging Anti-Semitism

The UN accredits and associates with NGOs that espouse anti-semitism. The anti-semitism takes various forms: demeaning remarks about Jews, abhorrence of the presence of Jews or so-called "Judaization", minimizing the Holocaust, claiming anti-semitism is feigned or grossly exaggerated, attempting to appropriate the language of Jew-hatred and apply anti-semitism to Arabs, denying that anti-zionism or the denial of the right of Jewish self-determination is a form of anti-semitism, equating Zionism with racism (see also Section II). One favorite of UN-accredited or associated NGOs is to highlight self-hating Jews or Jewish anti-semites, or to represent that this tiny minority are the only liberal and decent Jews. Here is a sampling of the commentary made by UN accredited NGOs.

  • "To Antony Lerman, context is everything. His book, 'The Making and Unmaking of a Zionist', is a thoughtful, refreshingly honest, and highly important contribution to the burgeoning texts on a seemingly irresolvable conflict fraught with despair. Lerman charts his intellectual, personal and political development from a youthful credulous socialist Zionist to a hardened, yet sincere, advocate of moral universalism, which he sees as an expression of Jewish values...Lerman draws our attention to the difficulties faced by Jews who wish or choose to speak out against Israeli policies towards Palestinians, the conflation of antisemitism with anti-Zionism and the pseudo-scholarly concept of 'Jewish self-hatred' which strengthens the ethnocentric view of Jews...The courage required for Lerman to write this book was far surpassed by the courage that informed his unrelenting questioning of Zionism and his refusal, for the most part, to abandon the dictates of his conscience in the face of great pressure while occupying leading positions at the heart of the Jewish establishment."

  • "Recalling the persecution of the Jews and, ultimately, the Holocaust, conceals Israel's power as well as the injustice, illegality and wanton brutality of its treatment of the Palestinians. It also enables Israel to cast itself as the victim, although this is wearing thin... "

(Excerpt from "Roots of Resistance: We all have a responsibility to turn resistance into liberation", by Jeff Halper, Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions ICAHD, December 18, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC)

  • "The American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), as it does on any issue involving Palestine and Israel issued Talking Points for members of Congress... AIPAC keeps close track of how many interviews each member gives and how closely they tow the Zionist line so as to help determine how much cash the particular member will receive for re-election as well as other perks."

(Excerpt from "HISTORIC VICTORY FOR PALESTINE", by Franklin Lamb", Third world network, December 1, 2012, Accredited by UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and ECOSOC Roster status since 1985)

  • "...Israel's attempt at rendering the occupation permanent by warehousing the Palestinians in small cells of the country while "judaizing" the rest..."

(Excerpt from "ICAHD Condemns the Israeli Attacks on Gaza", Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions ICAHD, November 16, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC)

  • "[T]he two state solution. The problem with that, of course, is that it's gone." This is a point that Halper has been making for many years now. In 2003, he presented a paper at the UN called 'One State: Preparing for a Post-Road Map Struggle Against Apartheid'.... [I]nternational collaboration could be one way to bring about what Halper calls 'Global Palestine', which is also the title of the book he is writing."

(Excerpt from "The occupation is only going to end with outside pressure" – an interview with Jeff Halper", Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions ICAHD, October 29, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC)

  • "TODAY, ZIONISM is firmly in the hands of the extreme Right, a mixture of nationalists, religious fanatics and the settlers, supported by very rich Jews in Israel and outside. They govern the news, both directly (they own all the TV networks and the newspapers) and metaphorically. Every day, the news contains many items figuring "Zionism"... In Ramallah, the capital of the Palestinian authority, Israeli troops hunt for Africans without an Israeli immigration permit...In the name of Zionism, our fanatically right-wing Minister of Education is sending Israeli school children on indoctrination trips to "holy places" in the occupied territory, so as to instill in their consciousness from early on that all the country belongs to them. To strengthen their Zionist convictions they are also sent to Auschwitz..."

(Excerpt from "Talking Zionism" by Uri Avny, Gush Shalom, July 28, 2012, Accredited by UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People)

  • "Are you tired of your uncle depicting you as the "wicked child" at the Passover Seder table just because you are willing to ask the tough questions about human rights in Israel and the occupied territories?"

(Excerpt from "Tired of Being Depicted as the Wicked Child?", B'Tselem, April 5, 2012, Accredited by UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People)

The Demonization of Israel

The UN accredits and associates with NGOs that demonize or incite hatred of Israel. The demonization takes various forms: analogizing Israelis to Nazis, maintaining Zionism or the right of self-determination of the Jewish people is a form of racism, alleging Israel is guilty of the worst human rights violations known to humankind - racism/apartheid, genocide, and ethnic cleansing, claiming that Jews are conspiring to destroy Muslim holy sites. Here is a sampling of the commentary made by UN accredited NGOs.

  • "In order to limit the population growth of Palestinians within Israel, to ghettoize them geographically, and/or coerce them to leave; the state has passed legislation and enacted policies to restrict their access to full equality and to state resources and institutions. This discriminatory regime... amounts to apartheid...The JNF, under the false appearance of a NGO, as opposed to the para-statal organization that it is, has an explicit mandate to serve Jewish persons only... The Israeli Planning and Building Law...reveals a policy of discrimination, Judaisation..."

(Excerpt from "Occasional Bulletin No. 26: Israel's Discriminatory Laws", BADIL, September, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC and associated with DPI)

  • "In 1973, The United Nations rightfully condemned 'the unholy alliance between Portuguese colonialism, South African racism, Zionism and Israeli imperialism.' And only two years later the same international organization determined 'that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.'...the equation of Zionism with racism is still valid...In the case of Israel, the driving force behind the Palestinian reality of apartheid is Zionist ideology; its manifestation is population transfer and ethnic cleansing...[T]he Zionist enterprise combined the Jewish nationalism which it aimed to create and foster, with the colonialism of transplanting people, mostly from Europe, into Palestine with the support of European imperial powers...Jewish history was interpreted towards constructing a specific Jewish national identity in order to justify the colonization of Palestine...The creation of a Jewish nation state in a land with a very small Jewish minority could only be conceivable through the forced displacement of the existing indigenous population...the main manifestation of Zionist apartheid has been population transfer...This forcible transfer or ethnic cleansing started even prior to 1948 and is still ongoing today."

(Excerpt from "Issue #49 of al-Majdal, Zionism: A Root Cause for Ongoing Population Transfer of Palestinians, by Amjad Alqasis", BADIL, May 17, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC and associated with DPI)

  • "The destruction of Palestine in 1947-48 ushered in the birth of Israel...David Ben Gurion, first prime minister of Israel, once said that "the old (refugees) will die and the young will forget." He spoke with the harshness of a conqueror...More than 50 people were killed in Beit Daras...An old Gaza woman...refers to what is likely the same event:...they (the Zionist forces) were hiding and waiting to ambush the people...There were mostly children and kids in the house. The Jewish (soldiers) let the people get out, and then they whipped them with bombs and machine guns...The bombs from one side and the machine guns from the other."

(Excerpt from "The Palestinian Nakba: The resolve of memory", Friends of Al-Aqsa, May 15, 2012, Accredited by UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People)

  • "Each year, on 15 May, 'Nakba Day' commemorates the anguish of those who were expelled from their homes...Today also serves as a day of remembrance for the mass murders of 1948 and the destruction of entire villages, of Deir Yassin and Tantura and Al-Dawayima, when hundreds of Palestinians were killed during a period that is now known simply as 'the catastrophe'. While the term Nakba is seen as a reference to the murder, exile and devastation of the 1948 war, in reality, it could just as easily be used to describe the current belligerent occupation...Palestinians in 2012 still experience 'the catastrophe'...an uninterrupted stream of violations of international law that began more than sixty years ago."

  • "All the lands in that area are threatened by the Greater Jerusalem Program under implementation by the Israeli government to annex as much Palestinian land bordering Jerusalem Municipality and the construction of the Apartheid Wall...The focus of the campaign is to shed light on the racist practices of the para-statal Zionist organization, the Jewish National Fund (JNF) which "purchases" Palestinian lands and only allocates them to Jewish immigrants."

  • "CIHRS stated that this in addition to the lack of a political will to ensure investigating and prosecuting decades of war crimes and crimes against humanity and conditions resembling apartheid are the reasons behind the continuation of human rights violations against Palestinians."

  • "The lack of political will to insure the investigation and prosecution of decades of war crimes and crimes against humanity and conditions that are equal to apartheid is deplorable."

  • "PETITION...

To President and Member States of United Nations General Assembly...

The Creation of a Special Tribunal to try Israeli War Criminals...

Recalling that Israel was created by virtue of a General Assembly Resolution in 1947 against the wishes of the indigenous population of Palestine;...

Recalling that the creation of Israel was achieved through the ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population, which resulted in the creation of the Palestinian refugee problem, and that more than half of the population of 1.5 millions of the Palestinian Occupied Territory called the Gaza Strip are Palestinian refugees who have become, with the other civilian population, victims of the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip;...

    The undersigned NGOs and individuals:...

Call upon the General Assembly to create a special international tribunal to try Israel, its political and military leaders, for such crimes in violation of international law, human rights law and international humanitarian law in the Palestinian Occupied Territory of which they may be charged."

(Excerpt from "Petition for the creation of a Special Tribunal to Try Israeli War Criminals" in The International Organization for the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination (EAFORD), undated, accessed February 20, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC and associated with DPI)

  • "Israel's conduct represents a series of measures designed to establish and maintain the domination of one racial group over another. Such domination by the Jewish group is associated with transferring control over land and natural resources, including water, to exclusively Jewish use. The Jewish settler society enjoys superior living conditions and greater access to water...This reveals the true nature of this occupation as one that enables Israel to maintain a regime of apartheid."

(Excerpt from "Statement at the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, 80th Session", Al-Haq, February 14, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC)

Condoning or Justifying Violence

The UN accredits and associates with NGOs that condone or justify violence against Jews either inside or outside of Israel. The violent programmatic takes various forms: the reference to killers as martyrs, support for armed or violent struggle or resistance, and the effort to redirect attention away from the violence and justify it by focusing on alleged "causes" of terrorism. Here is a sampling of the commentary made by UN accredited NGOs.

  • "Headline: "Jenin: Arab Lawyers Union honors family of Martyr (Shahida) Hanadi Jaradat"
"Yesterday, the Arab Lawyers Union honored the family of martyred lawyer Hanadi Jaradat [suicide terrorist] from the city of Jenin, marking the ninth anniversary of her death as a Martyr, during a visit by a delegation representing the union to the family's home. The visiting delegation awarded a plaque from the Arab Lawyers Union to honor the family of Martyr Jaradat, who died a Martyr's death on Oct. 4, 2003, in an operation [terror attack] during which 19 Israelis were killed and about 50 injured. Member of the Palestine Committee of the Arab Lawyers Union, Ayman Abu Aysha, said that the honoring of the family of Martyr Jaradat came in the wake of a decision taken by the Palestine Committee of the Arab Lawyers Union during a meeting held in Cairo on Sept. 8, 2012. The delegation, which included Khatam Al-Hih, Muhammad Alan, Muhammad Halaweh, and Adi Alawi, conveyed to the family of Martyr Jaradat the good wishes of the head of the Union, Mr. Omar Al-Zayn, and of the head of the Palestine Committee in the Union, Mr. Said Abd Al-Ghani, and also emphasized the pride of the Arab Lawyers Union for what their daughter had done in defense of Palestine and the nation. Deputy Secretary of the Arab Lawyers Union, Said Abd Al-Ghani, said that the Union created the "Martyr Hanadi Jaradat plaque of honor," the highest honor awarded by the Union in esteem for any [female] lawyer in the Arab homeland."

(Excerpt from the Palestinian Daily Al-Ayyam, Oct. 14, 2012 (as published on the Palestinian Media Watch, October 18, 2012), Arab Lawyers Union is accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC)

  • "For peoples engaged in struggle, the potency of symbolism is undeniable...Many images are also symbols, like the iconic photographs of...martyrs and freedom fighters...Resistance is a permanent fixture within the rigors of Palestinian daily life and existence...In 2011, Nakba Day proved highly significant in terms of the progression of resistance...Many of these protestors fell as martyrs..."

(Excerpt from "Issue #49 of al-Majdal", BADIL, May 17, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC and associated with DPI)

  • "In addition to the traditional activity of tree planting in endangered and confiscated areas, the children of various refugee camps released balloons decorated with the Palestinian flag and the names of the martyrs of previous Land Day commemorations."

(Excerpt from "Land Day 2012: The JNF is NOT Charitable, but a Racist, Zionist Organization", BADIL, undated, accessed May 15, 2012, Accredited with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC and associated with DPI)

  • "Groups such as Hamas and Hezbullah have indiscriminately fired rockets into Israel as a way to stand up to the occupying power. Israel sees this as a reason to continue bombarding Palestinian land, although the problem lies first and foremost in the illegal acquisition of Palestinian land and resources by Israel."

(Excerpt from "Israeli occupation of Palestine is a crime against humanity" in Friends of Al-Aqsa, February 20, 2012, Accredited by UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People)

Delegitimization of the State of Israel

The incitement to hate, the demonization of Israel, and the support for violence has a goal: the destruction of the state of Israel. Sometimes this goal is camouflaged, but some UN accredited or associated NGOs are quite clear about their intentions. The UN, therefore, accredits and associates with NGOs that espouse the destruction of a UN member state. This call takes various forms: objections to the legitimacy of the creation of Israel, references not to Israel but to an entity called "Israel/Palestine," putting references to Israel in quotation marks, calling for a one-state solution, and boycott, divestment or sanction campaigns intending to destroy the economic viability of Israel and the international relationships necessary for Israel's survival as a Jewish state. Here is a sampling of the commentary made by UN accredited NGOs.

  • "The violent birth of Israel in 1948 constituted a catastrophe - Nakba...Palestinians in Israel are forced to operate within a structure that serves the Zionist character of Israel as 'the state of the Jews'...the experiences of European Zionist immigration to Palestine, stemming from the collectivist and orientalist views that led the immigrants to treat the indigenous population with distain..."

Batsheva is funded by the Israeli state and is part of PR exercise designed by their Ministry of Foreign Affairs known as 'Brand Israel'. Its aim is to whitewash Israel's human rights abuses and violations of international law, creating a false image of a 'normally' functioning, democratic country... We request you to write a letter (template letter available) to your nearest venue which is scheduled to host Batsheva asking for the invitation to be withdrawn due to the apartheid state it represents."
