Speaking at a UN observance ceremony marking the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust on January 27, 2017, UN Secretary-General António Guterres downplayed the unique threat of antisemitism and compared it to Muslim "stereotyping."
In his words:
"Today, we see anti-Semitism, along with racism, xenophobia, anti-Muslim hatred and other forms of intolerance, triggered by populism. I am extremely concerned at the discrimination faced by minorities, refugees and migrants across the world. I find the stereotyping of Muslims deeply troubling..."
In his remarks, the Secretary-General also noted that "Imperial Rome ... destroyed the temple in Jerusalem." The Secretary-General failed to mention the hypocrisy of the Security Council's December 23, 2016 resolution decreeing that Israel is "occupying" the historic site of the temple in Jerusalem.
